Here we will take a closer look at the dive sites.
Tiger point
Tiger point
The place where diving with tiger sharks takes place. The site is located at a depth of 10 m, where a steep underwater ravine begins, going to a depth of more than 70 m. The site is located at the entrance to the port, leading to the open ocean. Therefore, it is available to divers of all qualifications. However, for this reason it has many nuances and not only because of the sharks. There may be strong waves on this site, so it is necessary to choose the right weights before diving. The jump is carried out away from the port, at 15-30 m. Next to the site there is a coral garden and a wall, which can be additionally examined after the completion of the program with tiger sharks. In the place where tiger sharks live, there is a rocky bottom with a couple of stones that play the role of a stage, and which divers hold on to while observing the animals, their backs are covered by shark divers. Due to active shipping, you can only surface here away from the site, and go up the descent end from the guide's signal buoy. Sometimes there may be a current or visibility drops at the site, but in this case the guides dive at the wall of the ravine at 15 m, where visibility is better, and sharks are still visible. In addition to tiger sharks, you can see silvertip sharks, star sharks, leopard sharks and giant moray eels, sometimes there is a chance to meet an ocean manta ray swimming past the port. The coral garden next to the dive site is home to a rich variety of brightly colored coral fish and other animals, including sea turtles - Biss.
Rasgefanno
Rasgefanno
An easy dive site located in the center of the eastern part of the island, which is a steep coral wall that goes down to a depth of 50 m. This dive site rarely has strong currents, which is why a large school of batfish or platax lives here on a permanent basis. Also on this dive site you can find grottoes and rocks where lobsters hide, coupled with a very rich coral fauna, this site is ideal for checkdives and sightseeing dives, to get acquainted with the diving conditions on the island.
Farimikede
Farimikede
This is probably the most difficult dive site on our island, and maybe on all the Maldives. This place is a southern underwater plateau on which the entire island stands, going south, at depths of about 40-50 m, after which it breaks off at a depth of more than 300 m towards the open ocean. There are often strong ascending and descending currents here, which in turn attracts large pelagic creatures, such as ocean mantas, thresher and tiger sharks, adult silver sharks, marlins, different types of tuna and barracuda and even two types of hammerhead sharks. Here you need to dive only in a group and strictly follow the dive guides. The usual depth here is 40 m, with a consistent ascent according to the diving computer with decompression stops. But this is a real dive into the ocean, when there is only blue around you!
Thundi
Thundi
Located on the northern corner of the island, right along the sandy beach of Tundi. This site is interesting because thresher sharks often come here for “cleaning” with special wrasses. But to see them you need to dive deep, at least 30 m. Therefore, only experienced divers with a qualification of at least AOWD should dive here. Sometimes strong currents can occur on this site, in which you can carry out a drift dive. However, because of the same current, the wrasses hide and thresher sharks may not appear for some time, but instead, schools of gray reef sharks, barracudas and tunas swim in the currents. Also on this site there is a sandbank, where you can find flounders, triggerfish and even stingrays and electric rays, as well as sea turtles. Usually the current appears when the monsoons change.
Gehmiskiy fanno
Gehmiskiy fanno
This place is located on the northwestern part of the island, it is also a coral wall, where some of the most beautiful coral gardens are located, because no work has ever been done here to build ports or conduct communications, which is why the corals here are as untouched as possible. An additional bonus is the presence of a strong current for half a year, in which it is possible to carry out a very exciting drift dive, literally flying over the coral reefs, meeting along the way a wide variety of creatures, from typical reef fish to gray reef and tiger sharks. The maximum depth during diving is usually 30 m. But you should be careful to turn to the corner of the island in time and not get into the "washing machine" at the corner of the island. This dive site smoothly transitions to the Tundi site.
